EXPERIENCE & ACTION
Over the past four years I have listened and responded to residents, worked with local organizations, and advocated for our district. Achieving results involves collaborating with people in our communities, working directly with HRM staff, and being engaged at council and committees to shape policies and programs that reflect the priorities of my constituents.
A lot has been accomplished during this past term. Here are some highlights.
CREATING LIVEABLE AND SAFE COMMUNITIES

Installed seven major crosswalks, including new ones on Dentith, Hebridean, and Herring Cove Road.

Upgraded crosswalks along Herring Cove Road at Woodcrest, Beachstone, and Oceanbreeze.
-
Established District 11’s first traffic-calmed streets, including Leiblin Drive.
-
Reduced speed limits to 40 km/h in Herring Cove, Governor’s Brook, and Thornhill Park.
-
Initiated a Community Mobilization Team in Spryfield.
-
Opened a Youth Multi-Service Centre at the Capt. Spry Centre.
-
Established the Public Safety Office to consolidate community safety programs and emergency response under one department.
-
Supported a new Sidewalk Strategy to address the lack of sidewalks in urban communities, prioritizing Spryfield.
-
Improved trail and pathway maintenance and investment to enhance walking infrastructure in Spryfield.
-
Advanced an Active School Travel Plan for HRM.
-
Supported the development of the Rural Sidewalk Program.
-
Advocated for the initiation of the Suburban Plan to guide development in suburban communities.

Addressed parking issues in Governor’s Brook.
-
Supported the hiring of new firefighters in District 11.
-
Endorsed the new Hazard Risk and Vulnerability Community Program.
-
Supported the creation of a Vulnerable Persons Registry.

Supported Halifax's Community Garden Program
BUILDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING, TRANSIT, AND INFRASTRUCTURE

Advocated for a new transit program for the Sambro Loop, including community meetings and public engagement.

Supported the advancement of Bus Rapid Transit for Herring Cove Road.
-
Support advancement of the Herring Cove Road Corridor Plan.
-
Expanded the grant program for affordable housing outside the regional center.
-
Supported the approval of dozens of affordable housing projects across HRM.
-
Approved the purchase of electric buses to expand and green our fleet.
-
Approved an electric car charging strategy for HRM.
-
Advanced improvements to stormwater infrastructure, climate-proofing, and road upgrades for Purcell’s Cove Road.

Commissioner on Halifax Water Board of Directors

Halifax Member on the Board for Federation of Canadian Municipalities, where securing federal funding for municipal infrastructure is a priority
PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT
-
Expanded Shaw Wilderness Park.

Launched the “LakeWatchers” Program.

Approved a Watershed Management Framework.

Advanced and funded HalifACT.

Advocating or the Halifax Green Network Plan
-
Protected the Northwest Arm from infill.
-
Increased buffers to watercourses from 20m to 30m.

Supported the designation of Halifax as a Bird Friendly City.
-
Advocated for and led efforts on Coastal Protection for Halifax.

Increased fines and established programs to combat illegal dumping and litter.

Expanded the Household Special Waste Mobile Depot, including an annual event in Harrietsfield to help residents properly dispose of special waste.
INVESTING IN NEW PARKS AND FACILITIES
-
Built the new Roches Pond Off-leash Dog Park.
-
Installed new playgrounds in Hartlen Park, Sambro Elementary, and Portuguese Cove.
-
Approved and budgeted for new fully accessible playgrounds in Herring Cove and Graves-Oakley.
-
Initiated work on a new arena for Spryfield, scheduled for completion in 2027.
-
Started renovations to the Capt. Spry Centre.
-
Changed by-laws related to parking for community centers to advance the Herring Cove Community Centre.
-
Approved a Rural Recreation Strategy.
-
Supported the Rural Rec Van for Ketch Harbour and Harrietsfield.
-
Installed Playboxes in Portuguese Cove, Harrietsfield, Sambro, and Ketch Harbour.
-
Built a new bike pump track, repaired the tennis court, and rehabilitated the ball fields in Williamswood.

Repaired courts in Purcell’s Cove.
-
Installed new bleachers at JL Ilsley.

Contributed to the development of a new community center in Sambro.

Supported improvements to the community hall and new floating docks in Ketch Harbour.

Contributed to garden boxes, rain barrels, benches, and a gaga pit in Harrietsfield.

Repaired Breakers Park.
-
Completed trail upgrades along the McIntosh Community Trail.

Installed new park signage around District 11.
-
Expanded and supported accessible rec programs, like Sailable

Supported final approvals for the TARS Rugby Clubhouse.

Supported facility improvements at the Purcell’s Cove Social Club.
CELEBRATING AND LIFTING UP OUR COMMUNITIES

Provided seed funding for the Sambro Imagination Library.

Supported the Pathways to Education Program.

Funded the Spryfield Art Cards.

Funded new community signage for Spryfield.

Supported local organizations across District 11 with events, capital projects, and sponsorships, including the Urban Farm, Chebucto Connections, Umlah Community Garden, Spryfield Farmers Market, Spryfield Area Multicultural Society, MWRA Single Track Trails, Long Lake Provincial Park Association, Backlands Coalition, KHARA, SACA, Spryfield Community Association, Chebucto Family Resource Centre, and more.

There is always more to do. This next term I will focus on:

Getting more traffic calming for our neighbourhoods.

Address congestion on Old Sambro Road, Herring Cove Rd, Purcell's Cove Rd.

Fight against reckless development that we don't have the infrastructure to support.

Ensure the arena, Capt Spry Centre, and park projects are completed.

Keep working on stronger protection for our environment.

Keep working with local organizations to support their efforts in making our communities work for everyone.
